In Ali (permission decisions: errors; slip rule) Pakistan [2020] UKUT 249 (IAC) Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal in human rights appeal where the Tribunal gave guidance on the use of slip rule to correct the errors in permission decisions. The Tribunal observed that “Mr Maqsood filed a very detailed skeleton argument, directly addressing the issue.  We wish to express our thanks to Mr Maqsood for producing this and for his equally helpful oral submissions.”. It was further observed that “Mr Maqsood’s submissions on the merits of the appellant’s individual case were as concise and precise as those he made on the application of the slip rule.”.

In Iwuanyawu v Ratcliffes Solicitors [2020] EWHC B25 (Costs) Mr Maqsood represented the Claimant in the High Court. The decision underlines for the solicitors the importance of expressly agreeing the interim statue billing provisions with their clients in order to have the ability to deliver such bills. Furthermore, it also highlights the need to inform the clients clearly in the client care letter and/or on the bills, their right to seek an assessment of the bills by the court under the Solicitors Act, and have regard to their initial costs estimates.

In Nmai, R (on the application of) v The Secretary of State for the Home Department [2020] EWHC 1139 (Admin) Mr Maqsood represented the Claimant in her judicial review claim before the Administrative Court.

​

In KP (Pakistan) & Anor v The Secretary of State for the Home Department [2019] EWCA Civ 556 (02 April 2019) Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Court of Appeal. Lord Justice Bean noted Mr Maqsood’s able submissions and recorded his gratitude to Mr Maqsood for his valuable assistance.

In TR (Pakistan) v Secretary of State for the Home Department [2015] EWCA Civ 1412 (01 December 2015) Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Court of Appeal. Lord Justice Beatson observed that Mr Maqsood has put his argument in a very attractive way.

In Moalom Limited v SSHD (Claim Number: B50CL068) the Judge sitting in the Central London County Court remarked that “Mr Maqsood very eloquently went on to say that…”.

In Roasters Piri Piri Limited v SSHD (Claim Number: CF095/2015CA) the Judge sitting in the Cardiff County Court remarked that “Mr Maqsood has done his best and as persuasively as possible…”.

In Sajjad Ali v SSHD HU/01868/2019 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal in human rights appeal, and the tribunal found a material error of law in the decision of the First-tier Tribunal and set it aside, and remitted the matter to the First-tier Tribunal.

In Shana Shaikh v SSHD HU/02855/2019 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal in a human rights appeal involving TOIEC.

In D A v SSHD PA/12466/2018 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal in asylum appeal, and the tribunal found a material error of law in the decision of the First-tier Tribunal and set aside the erroneous parts, and remitted the matter to the First-tier Tribunal.

 

In S A P v SSHD PA/11762/2018 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal (and before that in the First-tier Tribunal) in an asylum appeal and the tribunal found a material error of law in the decision of the First-tier Tribunal and set it aside, and remitted the matter to the First-tier Tribunal.

 

In Y M v SSHD PA/09518/2018 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal in asylum and article 8 appeal and the tribunal found a material error of law in article 8 decision of the First-tier Tribunal and set it aside, and re-made the decision allowing the appeal on article 8 grounds.

 

In SSHD v RA PA/12111/2017 Mr Maqsood represented the Respondent in the Upper Tribunal in asylum appeal and the tribunal found a material error of law in the decision of the First-tier Tribunal and set it aside, and remitted it to the First-tier Tribunal.

 

In M v SSHD EA/07160/2017 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal in EEA appeal (marriage of convenience) and the tribunal found a material error of law in the decision of the First-tier Tribunal and set it aside, and remitted the matter to the First-tier Tribunal.

 

In S W and W A v SSHD HU/17025/2017 and HU/17023/2017 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal in a human rights appeal (TOEIC case) and the tribunal found a material error of law in the decision of the First-tier Tribunal and set it aside, and remitted the matter to the First-tier Tribunal.

 

In Raja Bashir v SSHD EA/08167/2017 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal in EEA appeal (retained rights) and the tribunal set it aside the decision of the First-tier Tribunal by consent, and remitted the matter to the First-tier Tribunal.

 

In ECO and D R J HU/02548/2016 Mr Maqsood represented the Respondent in the Upper Tribunal in exclusion appeal and the tribunal found that the decision of the First-tier Tribunal contained a material error of law and set it aside.

 

In SSHD v Muhammad Irfan HU/23466/2016 Mr Maqsood represented the Respondent in the Upper Tribunal in human rights appeal and the tribunal found that the decision of the First-tier Tribunal did not contain a material error of law and the appeal remained allowed.

 

In Satyajit Roy v SSHD EA/14017/2016 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal in EEA appeal and the tribunal set it aside the erroneous parts of the decision of the First-tier Tribunal and allowed the appeal in re-making.

 

In SSHD v N A HU/17394/2016 Mr Maqsood represented the Respondent in the Upper Tribunal in human rights appeal and the tribunal found that the decision of the First-tier Tribunal did not contain a material error of law and the appeal remained allowed.

 

In Ahsan Rasul v SSHD EA/01873/2016 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal in EEA appeal and the tribunal found a material error of law in the decision of the First-tier Tribunal and set it aside, and remitted the matter to First-tier Tribunal.

 

In Peki Amadou v SSHD EA/12675/2016 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal (and before that in the First-tier Tribunal) in EEA appeal (direct family members) and the tribunal found a material error of law in the decision of the First-tier Tribunal and set it aside, and re-made the decision allowing the appeal.

 

In SSHD v Mr Hitesh Malhotra HU/07571/2016 Mr Maqsood represented the Respondent in the Upper Tribunal in human rights appeal and the tribunal found a material error of law in article 8 decision of the First-tier Tribunal and set it aside, and re-made the decision allowing the appeal on human rights grounds.

 

In SSHD v Kashif Khurshid HU/18775/2016 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal in an Article 8 appeal and the tribunal found a material error of law in the decision of the First-tier Tribunal and set it aside, and remitted the matter to the First-tier Tribunal.

 

In SSHD v M Y HU/22541/2016 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal (and before that in the First-tier Tribunal) in an Article 8 (spouse TOIEC) appeal and successfully resisted the Respondent’s appeal to the Upper Tribunal, and tribunal accordingly found that the decision of the First-tier Tribunal did not involve the making of an error on a point of law.

 

In A S v SSHD HU/03093/2016 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal (and before that in the First-tier Tribunal) in human rights appeal and the tribunal found a material error of law in the decision of the First-tier Tribunal and set it aside, and re-made the decision allowing the appeal.

 

In SSHD v Shabnam Akhmad HU/13912/2016 Mr Maqsood represented the Respondent in the Upper Tribunal in an Article 8 appeal and successfully resisted the Appellant’s appeal to the Upper Tribunal, and tribunal accordingly found that the decision of the First-tier Tribunal did not involve the making of an error on a point of law, and the appeal remained allowed.

 

In Abdullah Muhammad v SSHD IA/31949/2014 Mr Maqsood represented the Respondent in the Upper Tribunal in an Article 8 appeal and the tribunal found a material error of law in the decision of the First-tier Tribunal and set it aside, and remitted the matter to the First-tier Tribunal.

 

In SSHD v Md Azahar Khan IA/31571/2015 Mr Maqsood represented the Respondent in the Upper Tribunal in PBS appeal and the tribunal did not find and material error of law in the decision of the First-tier Tribunal and the appeal remained allowed.

 

In U S F J v SSHD IA/25195/2015 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal in human rights appeal re-making hearing.

 

In Usman Khalid v SSHD IA/06062/2015 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal in immigration appeal and the tribunal found a material error of law in the decision of the First-tier Tribunal and set it aside. The Upper Tribunal Judge John Freeman observed that: “Mr Maqsood, who has been most industrious in his researches…”.

In Hardeep Kaur and Ors. V SSHD IA/00048/2015 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal in PBS appeal and the tribunal found a material error of law in the decision of the First-tier Tribunal and set it aside, and in re-making of the decision allowed the appeal and remitted the matter to the Respondent.

 

In Harwinder Singh v SSHD IA/46032/2014 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal in PBS appeal and the tribunal found a material error of law in the decision of the First-tier Tribunal in respect of para 322 of the immigration rules and set that aspect of the decision aside. The Deputy Upper Tribunal Judge Davidge noted that: “he [Mr Maqsood] made a gallant effort to persuade me that I should look at the discretionary powers…”.

 

In SSHD v K M IA/29276/2014 Mr Maqsood represented the Respondent in the Upper Tribunal in human rights appeal and the tribunal found a material error of law in the decision of the First-tier Tribunal and set it aside, and remitted the matter to the First-tier Tribunal. The Deputy Upper Tribunal Judge I A Lewis acknowledged the “helpful and realistic approach” taken by Mr Maqsood and said that “clear and cogent submissions” were made by Mr Maqsood.

 

In MZZ v SSHD IA/18089/2014 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal in PBS appeal.

 

In Qaiser Billa v SSHD IA/01755/2014 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal in EEA appeal.

 

In SSHD v Melody Andres IA/14249/2014 Mr Maqsood represented the Respondent in the Upper Tribunal (and before that in the First-tier Tribunal) and successfully resisted the Appellant’s appeal to the Upper Tribunal in respect of Article 8, and tribunal accordingly found that the decision of the First-tier Tribunal did not involve the making of an error on a point of law under article 8, and the appeal remained allowed.

 

In Taskeen Haider v SSHD IA/44343/2013 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal in EEA appeal.

In SSHD v SOI IA/36761/2013 Mr Maqsood represented the Respondent in the Upper Tribunal in EEA appeal.

In ECO v FS and SS OA/09386/2013 Mr Maqsood represented the Respondents in the Upper Tribunal in Entry Clearance appeal.

In Sai Marapala v SSHD IA/52169/2013 Mr Maqsood represented the Appellant in the Upper Tribunal in a Tier 4 appeal in re-instatement application.

 

In AO v Entry Clearance Officer (appeal number: OA/20610/2013) the First-tier Tribunal Judge Dineen observed that: “Mr Maqsood who conducted the appeal with great thoroughness and clarity for which I am very grateful…” and “Mr Maqsood assures me and I accept from him because he is clearly experienced in these matters…”.

In the case of I R v SSHD (Appeal Number: IA/31913/2010) Mr Maqsood successfully represented the Appellant in his HSMP appeal.

In I Rizq v Greenmantle Care Home Ltd 3202343/2018 Mr Maqsood represented the Claimant in Employment Tribunal.
